The Tottenham Exchange

The Tottenham Exchange

Make-Room is working with Tom Ebdon Architects on a proposal for the disused toilet building on the corner of the High Road and Monument Way. The Tottenham Exchange is a place for local involvement, discussion and shared information. It is about providing new opportunities and new ways of looking at, thinking about and engaging with the complex issues and concerns that dominate the on-going changes in Tottenham.

The Tottenham Exchange could consist of:

  • A local Radio Station
  • A curated programme of contemporary and socially relevant art
  • Flexible meeting and event space
  • A cafe / bar facility
  • A Local Business in Residence scheme
  • Outdoor green spaces for community growing programmes run and managed by a local organisation

The Cubicles at the Tottenham Exchange

We propose to turn the existing windows of the building into exhibition spaces called the ‘Cubicles’, making art visible in Tottenham 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Cubicles would protrude from the building providing secure and highly visible exhibition spaces. These will support an accessible and engaging programme of contemporary art in the heart of Tottenham with opportunities for local schools, colleges and community groups to get involved.

Curated and managed by Make-Room, the Cubicles would showcase contemporary art which explores and engages with social issues and provides residency opportunities for artists and curators. The curatorial programme would link to other activities at the Exchange, drawing people into the building and helping to start a dialogue and invite engagement.

A place to relax in a busy urban environment
